Shapes and volume have become distinctive main features of Valentino, brought in by designer Pier Paolo Piccioli. The Spring / Summer 2020 collection started slowly with basic garments that evolved into grand designs of Valentino we are used to seeing and love. Even the simplest pieces had small but effective details: a white shirt turned into a long chemise, a wallet dress with emphasised shoulders and narrow waist, a magnificent bodice dress with a leather belt, and more. As for the colours, the show started with all-white looks and then continued with the full and vibrant colours of Valentino, such as bright green, neon lime and fuchsia. What really stood out was the monkey print, combined with animal motif jewellery, the result of collaboration with Florentine artist and jewellery designer Alessandro Gaggio. The Maison introduced its interpretations of the little black dress, changing the volume of the sleeves, drawing new necklines, or making it into a seductive lace petticoat with invisible and heat-sealed seams. This collection is a parade of trendy looks for personalities, with great attention to detail and craftsmanship. Besides, a fluorescent version of the cult bag Rock Stud has been introduced, blending elegance with the countercultures of today.
