With one Academy Award and three Golden Globes under her belt, it's safe to say that Jennifer Lawrence is a brilliant actress. The Red Sparrow star has pulled off playing everything from a shape-shifting blue mutant to a bow-wielding dystopian heroine, which is probably why Dior Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri has picked the actress to venture into gender-blurring territory for the new Dior Fall 2018 campaign.

Shot by French photographer Brigitte Lacombe once again — the pair had previously worked together for Dior's Fall 2017 campaign — Lawrence poses against a spare setting with her hair neatly tied up in a bun, while dressed in the Maison's collection of coats, jackets, buttoned shirts and pants.

The sombre portraits were inspired by Surrealist artist, Claude Cahun.

Born Lucy Schwob, the genderfluid French artist succeeds Niki Saint Phalle on Maria Grazia Chiuri's list of creative and empowered female muses.

Like Saint Phalle, Claude Cahun was ahead of her time. In the 1920s, she explored gender and identity through a series of compelling self portraits in which she portrayed and embodied tropes of conventional masculinity. It was these images that inspired the new Dior campaign, where Lawrence's androgynous appearance reflects Cahun's sentiments on femininity: "Shuffle the cards. Masculine? Feminine? It depends on the situation."

The collection also takes cues from menswear.

It's all in the details: aside from the distinctive silhouettes borrowed from menswear staples, Dior's Fall 2018 collection is also made from typically masculine fabrics, the likes of which were used by Monsieur Christian Dior himself back in the day. The result is a collection that showcases the masculine-feminine duality of the modern woman, inviting you to shuffle the cards just like Claude.

Jennifer Lawrence pulls the look off perfectly as far as we can tell. Watch the behind-the-scenes clip below to find out what the actress loves about the new collection and what her favourite piece is.
