During the Oprah's 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus tour, Lady Gaga opened up on a very sensitive subject, the post traumatic stress she developed after being raped by an acquaintance of hers and her family.
“I was raped repeatedly at the age of 19 and also developed post traumatic stress as a result of these rapes and for not processing this trauma” and explains “I had no one to help me. I didn't have a therapist, I didn't have a psychiatrist or a doctor. "
Even after her fame she continued to feel the weight of these events “I suddenly became a star and was traveling the world, going from hotel room to garage, from limo to stage, and I never dealt with it,” she says. Gaga explained that she began to have pains in her whole body that resembled the illness she had after being raped. She suffers from fibromyalgia, a syndrome that causes pain and generalized muscle weakness.
She also talked about the importance of medicine at this time, saying that “mental health is a medical issue and should be treated as such”, explaining that medicine really helped her through this moment.
