Moncler Launches Genius Collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara

A flash of streetwear and a dash of sophistication.

Moncler’s latest genius collection – 7 Moncler Fragment Hiroshi Fujiwara – has officially dropped, just in time for the winter season. It’s part of the first instalment of Moncler Genius — a project in which the Italian brand collaborates with eight different designers for exclusive capsule collections that reimagine its iconic down jacket — and the second instalment of the Fragments collection in the FW18 Moncler Genius.

The seventh genius collection is a collaboration with Japanese streetwear designer and founder of Fragment Design Hiroshi Fujiwara, who is also known as the Godfather of Harajuku. The line, which elevates the streetwear scene with padded flannels and oversized wool sweaters, is Fujiwara’s creative interpretation of the idea ‘subcultural subtleness'.  

The collection is marked with striking hues, bold prints and ‘Moncler Fragment’ sticker tags. Wool pieces take on the facet of Scandinavian geometric abstraction, where colours seep into one another creating a faint imagery of the motifs. There are also tri-colour textures that brings to mind skewed Tetromino pieces from the popular game, Tetris.

“Moncler Genius is the opportunity to mix different identities into a new one. It allowed me to test solutions and materials I have never used. The result is an unreleased Hiroshi, but it is also an unreleased Moncler,” says the modern-day cultural agitator who is also a creative director, musician, record-producer and the first hip hop DJ in Japan.
