STAUD Sells Shoes Now—And You'll be Able to Shop Them

Grab your credit card (or hide it, depending on the state of your finances), STAUD, the cult brand behind cool girls’ favourite bucket bags is launching footwear. The Los Angeles clothing label, which was founded in 2015 by Sarah Staudinger and partner George Augusto, are dropping shoes on February 27th.

Though STAUD initially offered two styles of shoes when they launched in 2015, they put shoes on hold to focus on handbags. Now that they’ve effectively taken over the world of handbags (they make up 70% of STAUD's sales), the brand is ready to offer shoe consumers something new, as Staudinger feels there’s something missing from the market right now in footwear. Much like other items by STAUD, which aims to provide empowering and classic pieces that are also affordable, the footwear line will offer costumers quality shoes at a reasonable price. Ranging from 225 to 350$, the line is compromised of flat mules, wedges and strappy sandals, all made in Portugal.

According to Sarah Staudinger, the brand’s foray into footwear was inevitable, as her mother was a footwear designer in the 1970s. When asked who she believes her customer is, Staudinger describes the STAUD girl as “a smart shopper and appreciates value and product versatility. She wants to know she can wear her purchase different ways to different places.” She also adds that the STAUD customer “wants to feel a sense of escapism in her outfits but in a practical way.”


In terms of inspiration, Staudinger explains that the shoes take cues from the 1970s in terms of uppers, but with the 1990s in terms of heel height. However, above all, she wanted to create a shoe that felt timeless. According to her, the shoes are classic styles that have “just enough flirt to them”. Notably, the Gita, a strappy sandal on a two ½ inch heel, features an asymmetrical strap on the right shoe. She promises that from collection to collection, the customer will be able to see more of that flirtiness come through in terms of color, prints and fun novelty elements.

The shoes are available on the brand’s website and exclusively on Net-a-Porter, but New York customers can shop the line in person, along with this season’s ready-to-wear and accessories, at STAUD’s showroom, which will be open from March 1st to May 15th by appointment only.
