Inaugurated last year, MASA was born out of the shortage of a nomadic gallery that blurs the line between art, architecture and design in Mexico City. Age Salajõe, Brian Thoreen, Cristobal Riestra and Héctor Esrawe, in collaboration with collectors Isaac Bissu and Roberto Diaz Sesma, are the established founders of the national and international creative industry, who have created a collective project that provokes the conventionalism of the artistic label.
To open the dialogue between human beings and material culture, MASA reveals its second Recover / Uncover exhibition curated by Su Wu. The rally explores the taxonomic convention as a structural practice that declares its own ambiguities. The unique limited-edition pieces whose essences go beyond strict categorization were commissioned by renowned artists, creatives and designers around the world.
A series of bronze benches, Memoria Stools, by the Mexican design studio EWE Studio, some brass and steel squares with candles named Candlegrid by the Mexican designer Héctor Esrawe and a wavy mirror, Split mirror, by the design office VIDIVIXI founded by the English Adam Caplowe and American Mark Grattan, as well as pieces from LANZA Atelier, Misha Kahn and Tezontle, are some of the amazing works that are part of the exhibition.
The objective of Recover / Uncover is to promote conversation and solemnize the contradiction as a reflection on the continuous process that takes root in evolving, challenging the archetype and presenting the works as tools for life, contemplation and reconciliation, in an environment that symbolizes everyday life. The exhibition is presented in an old house in Manuel Gómez Pedraza 72, San Miguel Chapultepec until April 8, 2020.
