Acne Studios reveals the Spring Summer 2021 collection during Paris Fashion Week. A perfect balance, almost like in a performance in which the models become an exhibition tablaux vivant for the creations of Jonny Johansson. A format that pushes the observer to forge a bond of contemplation with cyclic video reproduction.
"There are those transitory moments that move me, those time intervals that show themselves lively with all the possibilities they hide", explains Jonny Johansson, “This collection is a hymn to the elements of nature, it expresses positivity, optimism and light”.
At the center of the collection is a reflection on time and the succession of the solar cycle, a very sensitive issue for Northern European countries. The incessant cycle of day and night becomes a territory of experimentation for Acne Studios which results in contrasts of materials and fabrics that change according to exposure to light. The leather goods are cracked, the cotton is pearly, lurex and even organza and metallic threads. There is no lack of references to art. Ben Quinn, a contemporary Californian artist capable of translating his experiences with the supernatural world, collaborates with the brand by granting his pulsating star painting to be printed directly on the garments, or transforming it into patchwork for skirts and dresses. The materials are presented with different weights, together with crocheted knitwear which is woven as if it were a fishing net. Transparencies, iridescent, opaque and glossy materials. Raw cut apron top in cracked leather that reverberates the light, while a metallic sheath dress is created with iridescent crumpled paper. The styling often appears layered while the accessories are extra bold: suede bags with oversized shoulder straps, metal earrings and goggles with transparent frames that sparkle when it comes into contact with the light.
