Zac Posen has proven himself to be an innovator time and time again, especially over the past few seasons. Starting in Fall 2017, the designer began forgoing traditional runway shows or presentations in favor of highlighting his mesmerising modern glamour through various events and digital projects. For Spring 2020, Posen is continuing this trend of unconventional collection debuts, releasing a series of 360-degree videos online, so every viewer has a front-row seat to see how each dress looks and moves.
The 360 format takes Posen's digital presentation expertise to the next level, showing the designs from all angles. Modeling all 27 looks is none other than Winnie Harlow, who stands alone on a platform while a camera rotates around her. As the series goes on, the lighting becomes more intense, which enhances the drama that the designer's luxurious gowns so often create. In one video, Harlow writhes in a silver reflective creation resembling tin foil, and the dress dramatically reflects the royal blue spotlight shining on her. Sometimes the model dances, in others she twists and squirms, and at moments she stays perfectly still. It seems as though each creation she wears guides her movement, showing the power of clothing when creating a mood. The 360 video medium that Posen has chosen is a perfect and unapologetically modern way to highlight the kind of unbridled femininity and power that consistently comes through in his designs, which Posen calls soft armor. That's what we call a fashion fantasy.
