The brand was founded in 1975 by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, who both came from watch families. Under the name of Audemars Piguet, they formed a manufacture to make watches in their home, Le Brassus (Switzerland). Over several generations, the people of the Vallée de Joux have become experts in metal, and, for more than 144 years, they have  been preserving the art of Haute Horlogerie. The manufacture continues to be familiar and is not part of the large watchmaking groups, so, each collection has its own personality, but all the original savoire-faire of the firm is still maintained. Discover its beginnings and some of the most emblematic creations!

Surrounded by nature and the passing of the seasons, at first, the watchmakers were inspired to not only contain time in a clock, but also to be able to trace other cycles of nature, such as the days, hours, and phases of the moon.

1899 - The firm creates one of the most complicated watches for its time, the Universelle.

1921 - Its five-minute repeater, the smallest in the world, goes into production.

1955 - The first wristwatch with a perpetual calendar and a leap year indication is introduced.

1972 - The iconic Royal Oak model, designed by Gérald Genta, is introduced.

1976 - Production Design Director Jacqueline Dimier designs a version of the Royal Oak for women.

1993 - Launch of the first Royal Oak Offshore, designed for extreme sports.

2000 - For the 125th anniversary of the firm, a pocket watch is designed celebrating the firm's legacy.

2002 - On the occasion of celebrating 30 years of the Royal Oak, the Concept model is born, inspired by a totally futuristic aesthetic.

2012 - 40 years of the Royal Oak are celebrated with a hand-finished model crafted in platinum.

The passion for experimentation has positioned the brand through traditional geometric shapes such as the circle, square and rectangle, combining this to achieve an innovative design in the case of each watch.

In 2019, the iconic Sapphire Orb, inspired by a river from the Vallée de Joux, was unveiled. Between diamonds and sapphires, the watch was presented in a circular design that has already become an icon.

In Summer 2020, Le Brassus opened the doors of the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet, a space that tells the stories of those who helped build the firm's universe.
