The world of fashion wouldn't be the same without the Medusa. In a short time Versace managed to establish itself on the world scene as one of the most token fashion houses, alongside such names like Prada, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. It was 1972 when Gianni Versace arrived in Milan to become Callaghan's stylist: in his past many hours were spent with his mother Franca in the tailor's shop. Only 6 years passed and in 1978 Gianni together with his brother Santo and Claudio Luti founded Versace. Not long after, their sister Donatella joins the trio. The message regarding the logo of the brand was shared by Gianni: "When people look at Versace, they will have to feel terrified, petrified, just like when they look in eyes the Medusa". Eccentric, extravagant, baroque, rock, sensual, unscrupulous, Gianni Versace wanted his brand to attract attention, to amaze and to play in Milan. In recent years, "Made in Italy" acquired another flavor, for Versace it was the ability to combine tailoring and stylistic fashion. Gianni's journey within the fashion industry was dotted with iconic moments: from the first collection launched on 28 March 1978 with a fashion show at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan to the pin dress worn by a then unknown Elizabeth Hurley and the monochrome look of Lady Diana (a great friend of the designer) for a gala in 1996 and his last collection a week before the tragic death in 1997.
The man, the myth and the legend, Gianni Versace managed to change the course of fashion in twenty years of activity, leaving behind a fantastic world made of prints and colors that still amazes us.
