When Phoebe Philo left Céline in December 2017, her signature minimalist style and restraint designs continued to live on. Two years later, the soul of the stylist is felt again in the creations unveiled by Daniel Lee, who arrived at the helm of Bottega Veneta in June 2018. This is not a coincidence, since the British designer, aged 32, was a long-time protégé of Pheobe in Céline’s ready-to-wear department. Today, as the head of Bottega Veneta, he has managed to reinvent the designer’s vision with a new dose of modernity and minimalism. The house of Celine, now headed by Hedi Slimane, has taken up a sexy rock’n’roll aesthetic. At Bottega Veneta, on the other hand, Lee offers simple accessories and unusual designs that appeal to Philo fans. His creations have become so iconic in just a few months, that an Instagram account called @newbottega has been dedicated to him. Account @oldceline is compiling all the looks and creations of the brand before the arrival of Slimane. So, will the new Bottega Veneta become the old Celine?
