They say love makes the world go round, and goodness knows the world needs a little more love. That seems to be the philosophy embraced by Burberry. The British heritage house has kicked off the festive season with a new What Is Love campaign that celebrates the spirit of love, hope, and togetherness.
“I am connected to the idea of unity, togetherness, and challenging the perception of what love is today,” chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci said of the campaign. “This, for me, is the real spirit of the season. It’s one of my favourite times of the year when I can stop, reflect, and reconnect with those who make me feel happy and at home, no matter where I am in the world.”
To that end, Tisci has gathered a diverse family of global talents for a jolly reunion, including Korean heartthrob Yoo Ah-In, transgender model Lea T, Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu, former French first lady Carla Bruni, and many more. For the first time ever, the annual campaign stars a hijabi model, Swedish beauty Ikram Abdi Omar. Under the direction of renowned photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the cast dances to the soundtrack of the hit song What Is Love by Deee-Lite, all clad in top to toe Burberry, of course.
Burberry’s Festive 2019 collection gives more reasons to love. Chain mail dresses with crystal fringing and feathers feature alongside mini sequin dresses, tie-detail gowns, and tuxedos adorned with crystals and velvet ties. The collection also shines a spotlight on the refreshed TB logo, which references the initials of founder Thomas Burberry, with an array of monogrammed goods ranging from duffle coats and puffer jackets to belts, earrings, wallets, and silk scarves, in addition to the TB family of bags like Lola and Title.
