Demna Gvasalia has just announced that he is leaving Vetements, the streetwear brand that he co-founded with his brother in 2014. Guram Gvasalia will continue to lead the label as CEO, with the goal of "pushing the boundaries even further."

WWD confirms that Demna will continue to lead the house of Balenciaga and pursue new ventures. "Vetements has always been a collective of creative minds," said Guram Gvasalia in a statement. "We will continue to push the boundaries even further, respecting the brand's authentic codes and values, and continue to support honest creativity and genuine talent. What Demna has accomplished in recent years represents an important chapter in the history of Vetements. We are very grateful to Demna for his contribution to the brand."

"I feel I have fulfilled my mission in this exceptional brand, and Vetements has matured into a company that now has its own creative heritage," claims Demna. Guram Gvasalia says the company will continue to evolve after his brother's departure.

The brand gained massive influence in the fashion scene after its Fall/Winter 2015 fashion show, changing the definition of what luxury fashion looks like. Vetements transformed streetwear into a chic alternative uniform for editors and influencers, introducing pieces such as oversized hoodies and DHL-branded t-shirts. Demna's successor has not been announced yet.
