Fashion Museums Online: Check Out the Most Famous Exhibits At Home

Even though we cannot actually visit museums for the time being, many museums provide the opportunity to see their exhibits remotely.

This time, we invite you to take a break from work and visit the fashion archives, where you will find not only the models of the last decades, but also many famous early models. More museums than you would think have amassed digital collections that we can see while being at home, drinking afternoon tea with a piece of cake.

1. Kyoto Costume Institute Digital Collection

Here you will find fashion archives from the 1700s to 2007, with each work described in detail. Jeanne Lanvin, Yvesa's Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Madame Grès, Paul Poiret are just a few of the names that have changed the history of fashion, the works of which you will see in these archives.

2. The Museum at FIT

In the museum of the Institute of Fashion Technology (FIT) you will find historical costumes from the 20th century, as well as fashion accessories and jewellery collections. In the archives, there is men’s fashion, a special collection donated by the famous American actress Lauren Bacall, and more than 40 lingerie models.

3. Europeana

These archives contain collections from various museums, rich in examples of historical and stage costumes, both clothing and fabrics. You will also find modern fashion or even opera costumes!

4. Metropolitan Museum of Arts

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest museum in the United States, and, in its online archives, you can view the collections of the Costume Institute and the Brooklyn Museum, a total of about 40,000 fashion exhibits.
