History: a grand — hotel with a great past

It was built to provide adequate accommodation for visitors from around the world. In the course of history, Maximilian’s “noblest hotel in the city” became a port of call for statesmen, actors and artists from the four corners of the earth. The Vier Jahreszeiten has been part of the Kempinski luxury hotel group since 1970.

Maximilian II wanted to create an urban monument to himself – in the form of a splendid boulevard named after him. And so he instigated one of the biggest architectural competitions of his era. In addition, he desired the construction of a truly noble hotel. The aim was to accommodate the burgeoning number of famous personalities from the nobility and middle classes and the spheres of the arts, academia and technology. Maximilian II wanted the planned hotel to be nothing less than “the most beautiful hotel in the city”.

Schwarzreiter Restaurant

In the heart of Munich, in the midst of the Maximilianstrasse – the city’s pre-eminent address for expensive tastes, luxury labels and vendors of precious jewellery and watches – lies the Schwarzreiter Restaurant on the ground floor of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. The noblesse of the Maximilianstrasse is also reflected in the architecture of the restaurant. Here, the designer was inspired by the surrounding boutiques and shops. Blended with the royal traditions of the hotel, Colin Finnegan has brought a fresh touch to the original and cosy design of the Schwarzreiter Restaurant. Diners are seated at tables specially designed for the restaurant. The bronze branches with spring-like blossoms beneath the glass tabletops originate from the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg: horned violets, Japanese cherry blossom, star magnolias and hibiscus made of the most delicate biscuit porcelain catch the eye. Every branch is a unique piece, specially handcrafted for the restaurant.

The Tagesbar Schwarzreiter Menu brings more casual and is excellent for those, who wants to catch a bite to eat before a shopping day. Opened view directly to the Maximilianstraße gives a cool, chic and modern touch.

Jahreszeiten Bar

The drinks menu of this American bar is a blend of tradition and innovation, encompassing the best drinks of the last century. Only selected, premium-quality spirits and liqueurs are used to make the drinks, as well as exclusive vintages and limited editions of champagne and its ilk. By visiting many different parts of the world, bar manager Rocco Tolomeo and his team find inspiration for fresh interpretations of classic drinks and for new creations. Jahreszeiten Bar (“Jahreszeiten” being German for “seasons”) lives up to its name. The range and preparation of cocktails and drinks are centred around the four seasons. A new addition on the drinks list of this traditional bar are the seasonally changing martinis and mixology cocktails. These are enriched with local and seasonal ingredients.
