Sex and the City is Back!
An iconic ad
It will be a 10-episode show starring Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) now in their 50s. All three posted a teaser on their Instagram accounts, Sarah Jessica Parker accompanying hers with the caption "I couldn't help but wonder ... where are they now?"
Kim Cattrall's absence in Sex and the City
Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones) will not be part of the series. The actress has already spoken about wanting to part ways with Sex and the City. During an interview with Piers Morgan, in 2017, he asked her if there would be another movie to which she replied: "Not for me. It was part of the age of 60. It was a very clear moment of, how many years do I have left and what do I want to do with it? What did I not do? I think the show was the best when it was the show and the bonus was both movies.”
It is also still unclear whether male characters from the show and movies will return to the show. While Sex and the City won't be the same without Samantha Jones, we're excited that this sleek, romantic, and fun series is back in our lives soon.
Patricia Field as a costume designer
Costume designer Patricia Field, who made Sarah Jessica Parker a fashion icon when she designed the costumes for the initial series and films, will also style the 'reboot'.
We can't help but wonder if this will spark controversy given that the last series Field styled was Emily in Paris. The series sparked mixed reactions with French clichés, the city's erasure of diversity, and Emily's 'redneck' fashion. Emily's character style plays into the cliché of American stereotypes.
We are, however, confident that Field will present looks that are just as iconic as his predecessors in Sex and the City. Something worth waiting for in 2021.
